They say if you want to get better at golf, you need to practice. Momentum is created, which helps us continuing working towards our goals. Practicing, then gradually working your way to better yourself. Here are three basic tips of the mechanics of the setup.
1) The Setup Mechanics - Process for setting up a simple swing is to put you in a more repeatable setup for power and control. Your ball position for a righty or lefty would be, stepping into the ball with your feet more on the center line shoulder width apart so you should feel comfortable. Longer clubs such as Driver, Fairway Woods, Hybrids, Longer Irons, you will need a more wider stance, closer to your left foot. Shorter Irons will require more of a narrow stance. You can experiment by moving the ball off center; it's all about your balance. The back should be straight, and the chest out a little, the spine stays straight acting as an axis for a more athletic swing. Your arms hang down naturally and your knees have a slight flex, not locked. Now you should bend at the hips until the club touches the ground. If you are natural and balanced your body will be able to transfer weight from left to right. This will promote great rotation for a consistent ball flight, and power.
2) The Grip - First take the club in your right hand, making sure the face of the club is in line with your target. Place your left hand on the handle towards the end of the club.
Left on the left side of the club, and the right on the right side of the club, don't worry where the thumbs go for now that will be determined whether you use an Overlap, Interlock, or a Baseball grip. The main focus is it should feel natural to you, as if you were shaken hands with someone making sure you're comfortable. The Grip Pressure is going to be your own, you should use a scale method from 1 to 10, were 10 being the tightest, and 1 the lightest it should be in the range of about 7.0 give or take that's fine. Note: your fingers should be giving the club most of the support not your palms. The more aware you are of gripping the golf club to tightly the better chance you will have of making a more simple golf swing releasing the golf club at a consistent point.
3) The Alignment - When you are stepping in, after you have properly aligned your clubface to your target. You can use something such as broken tee, a leaf, or any landmark parallel with your target. You need to stand so the line through your toes is parallel, thus left of your target line. Much like railroad tracks. Your feet have many responsibilities during your set up routine. Therefore, I like to see a minimum of three to four steps to adjust your feet for proper distance, it is necessary to make smaller adjustments for ball position, and proper alignment. Don't feel like your reaching for the golf ball.
Note adjust the distance with your feet, you should stand taller with longer clubs, and bend over for shorter ones. Practicing these simple methods, you will be on your way to play better golf.
