How To Shoot Low Golf Scores And Enjoy The Game More

The game of golf can be very enjoyable as long as you are getting better and shooting lower scores no matter what your current handicap is. There are lots of factors to consider in order to get better at golf. The first point to realize is that most shots are made inside of 100 yards so do not spend too much time working on your driver. It is important to hit the driver well but be sure to also spend enough time on your wedges and short game like chipping and putting otherwise improving quickly will be tough.

Learn how to putt well:

Putting is a very important component to golf and can be a great equalizer because almost anyone can learn to putt well. The first step is to learn the basic mechanics of how to putt - this can be done in a variety of ways including taking lessons from a local PGA teaching professional or you can watch some of your favorite players and copy their style but if you are a beginner then take lessons as that is the best approach.

Do not fuss over putting mechanics as that is not the secret to great putting nor is getting the latest model putter. Stick with one solid mechanical approach and putter and focus on improving your putting routine which is primarily a mental challenge. The first part of the routine is reading the greens. Crouching from various angles around the green can give you a solid idea of how the putt should break. The key is to come up with a decisive read and to not doubt that at any point.

Once you have come up with a solid and decisive read the next step is to take a few practice strokes and then simply line up and hit the putt with the target in mind. Simply look and react to the target and do not think too much as you are about to hit the putt. Everyone misreads or mishits a putt every now and then so learn from those mistakes and simply forget it and move on believing the next putt will be read and struck perfectly.

Course management is another key factor that can help amateurs improve dramatically in a short period of time. The goal on every tee shot is to hit the fairway ideally around the 150 marker and in on most par 4's and if you have the distance with your driver then you want to be inside 250 yards on most par 5's but hitting the fairway really is critical as that then gives you the best chance of hitting the green. Accuracy and distance control are critical with the irons so do not try to be too aggressive with your approach shots. Hit less than full shots so you have more control.
