We all know that exercise is important in order to maintain good health and fitness levels however is it really that important for golf? Well, the answer is yes, and the more serious a player you are the more critical it becomes to have a solid golf fitness program that you follow to allow you to become the best player you can be. The fact is that while golf may not be the most physical game in the world it still requires a certain level of physical fitness and stamina.

Wrist strength:

Having strong wrists is a trait that most golfers have in common especially long hitters. There are many ways to strengthen the wrist muscles however the best way is through strength training workouts such as doing wrist curl exercises with a dumbbell or bar bell. In a standing position, hold the dumbbells to your side and slowly move your wrists up and then down, you should feel your wrist muscles working during the repetitions.

Core strength:

Keeping your mid section strong is very important for the golf swing in order to maintain good balance. Probably the best way to keep your abdominal muscles strong is by doing weighted crunches. This involves the same motion as a crunch however you need to add resistance by using dumbbells.

Increase flexibility:

Having better flexibility will of course help you to hit the ball farther and the best way to get it is by doing stretches. One of the best ways to stretch the golfing muscles before a round or before you hit balls on the range is by simply making slow full swings with a club without hitting a ball. Make 20 to 30 of these swings before hitting a ball as this will warm you up nicely and prevent stiffness on the first tee.

The truth is that all major muscles play a role in the golf swing so learning to make them stronger is important. The best way to increase muscle size and make them stronger is through weight training. You should consider joining a gym or getting some kind of home gym fitness equipment so you can train from the comfort of your own home.
