Over 90% of amateur golfers have an uncontrollable slice. If you are one of these and would like to make golf easier for your self you need to eliminate your slice.
A slice can only occur with an out-to-in swing path and an open club face at impact.
The secret is in eliminating the cause. Here are a couple of things you can do that will help:
- Get your posture right. Watch the pros and note their stance. All of them are comfortable with the weight on the balls of their feet. To get this right make sure your shoulders are directly above the balls (middle) of your feet and do not crouch too much. Your knees should be slightly flexed and not bent.
- Take a three-quarter back swing. Over swinging is the result of trying to hit the ball to far and inevitably leads to an out to in swing path as you tend to use your arms instead of your torso to bring the club back to the ball.
- Concentrate on keeping your right elbow (for right handed golfers) tucked in and in contact with your body on the back and down swing. This will bring the club back to the ball on an in-to-out path.
- Finish high. Again watch the pros and you will note that they finish high. This is a sure sign of the correct follow through. Most amateurs are scared to commit to the shot and this is evidenced in the lack of a full follow through.
- Take a lesson or get a tutorial and practice. If you are going to change a bad habit you need to practice. A lesson without a lot of practice is useless. All it will do is clutter your mind with swing thoughts. Each time you play you will be trying to remember what you were told. The course is not the place to practice. You need to ingrain the lesson on the range so that it becomes second nature out on the course.
Eliminate your slice and your golf becomes much more enjoyable as you learn to control the ball, gain in confidence, shoot lower scores and win the beer money.
Ingrain the correct techniques - set up and swing - so that you can play on auto pilot and make golf easier as you eliminate your slice forever.
Slicing is almost always a result of trying too hard, either trying to hit the ball too far or trying to steer it in the right direction.
With the right technique it is easily corrected. Simplify your golf swing (and unclutter your mind) for best results. Take a look at the Simple Golf Swing which is the perfect tutorial to eliminate your golf slice.
